Highbridge Town through to semi's after 5-2 win

HIGHBRIDGE secured their spot in the semi-finals of the Rowbarton Charity Cup with victory over SRL Saints.

Pete Thompson opened the scoring for Town as he cut in from the left and hit a screamer into the back of the net with Saints goalkeeper left rooted to the spot.

Stuart Green and Adam Locke nearly doubled Town’s advantage but both efforts were denied by the woodwork.

Green did make it 2-0 on the half-hour mark, though, as he latched on to a teasing Wayne Hand cross.

Will Bailey scored two minutes into the second half to continue Town’s dominance before Saints pulled a goal back to make it 3-1.

But further goals from Locke, who beat the defender and goalkeeper, and Ricky Cook, whose shot hit the crossbar and rebounded off a defender into the net, put Highbridge into a 5-1 lead.

The visitors grabbed a late consolation but the win sees Highbridge travel to Redgate in the last four of the competition on March 17.

Next week, Town are back to league action in a table-topping clash with Middlezoy Rovers.

l HIGHBRIDGE Town Reserves drew 3-3 with Williton in Division 3 with veteran Paul Cook scoring twice along with a Chris Rex goal.
