Somerset Rebels duo finish in top four in Australia

SOMERSET Rebels duo Alex Davies and Sam Masters have finished third and fourth respectively in the Australian Under-21s Speedway Championships held in New South Wales.

The 20 qualifying heats saw Masters head the score-chart with a faultless 15 points from his five rides, while team-mate Davies was just a point behind on 14, his only blemish being when having to give second best to Masters when the pair met in heat six.

Their respective scores put the Rebels pair directly through to the ‘A’ Final alongside Taylor Poole who finished his qualifying rides on 13 points, the trio being joined by Justin Sedgmen who came through the ‘B’ final to take his place in the 4-rider Grand Final.

Masters’ hopes of claiming the title disappeared when the referee deemed him at fault following a coming together between the Somerset rider and Sedgmen, which resulted in Masters hitting the deck and, much to his annoyance, his exclusion from the re-run.

In that three-rider re-run, Davies was unable to get on terms with the Poole/Sedgmen duel, which finally resulted in Poole just getting the edge to take the Championship crown ahead of Sedgmen with Davies in third place and Masters being awarded fourth.
