Match report: Burnham 2nd XV 29, Chard 17
8:00am Friday 3rd February 2012

IT WAS clear from the start that Chard were up for the fight as Burnham were given a taste of some well put-together moves.
As the first quarter progressed the Burnham pack began to get their act together, and Rob Lewis crossed the line for an unconverted try following good work from a number of Burnham players.
Then, from a turnover in the visitors’ 22, Mike Whitfield went on a solo run and crossed the line under the posts, quickly converting his effort as he was tallying up two conversions and a penalty for his afternoon’s work.
Chard retaliated through a converted try but, just on half-time, the ball was passed from Stevens to the right corner which saw Ginge Somerhay pounce on it after a 20m sprint to collect and put down under the uprights.
Chard started the second-half with a try but Burnham responded with penetrating runs from Dan Berry, Rob Lewis, Somerhay, Phil Collings and George Wilcox.
Substitutes Mike Smith, Barrington, Hicks, Paul, and Dave Harris were introduced to provide some fresh legs which paid off when Glen Cutter broke out and, holding off two of the opposition, crossed the line for a fine try.
Chard finished off the scoring after picking up a loose pass but Burnham sealed the win with a fine all-round display.
The next league game is at Minehead on Saturday.
