Match report: Cirencester 12, Burnham 1st XV 14
8:00am Thursday 2nd February 2012

BURNHAM stretched their winning run to five matches with a well-deserved victory against a side also enjoying a rich run of form.
With neither team prepared to give an inch, Cirencester struck the early blows with a couple of penalties to take a 6-0 lead.
However, all this did was strengthen Burnham’s resolve even more and, before half time, they took the lead 6-8 with, firstly, a penalty from Piper after a late tackle on Webb, followed by a pushover try which was touched down by skipper Stuart Blake after a period of concerted pressure.
Burnham immediately increased their lead with another penalty, only for Cirencester to respond with two of their own to retake the lead 12-11.
For the next 25 minutes, Burnham tried everything they could only to be thwarted by Cirencester’s stout resistance until, finally, with two minutes to go, they were awarded a penalty within range and Piper coolly obliged to give Burnham a 12-14 win.
Burnham are at home this Saturday to table-toppers Chard (ko 2.30pm).
