1:00pm Thursday 2nd February 2012

PETROLHEADS from across the region gathered at Brean Leisure Park as the Mitsubishi Stages Rally arrived at the weekend.
It was the 16th consecutive year the rally has been held at Brean as competitors tackled the 12 stages over two days.
Around 85 cars hit the tarmac with around 3,000 spectators seeing state-of- the-art World Rally Cars and also classic cars such as Ford Escorts and Vauxhall Novas.
Organiser and rally manager Rod Mckenna said: “It was a huge success and the best yet.
“We broke all sorts of records and the number of people who attended exceeded our expectations.”
Peter Lloyd and Carl Sorensen won the rally for the fourth consecutive year in their Subaru Impreza, with Taunton duo Karl Broad and Roger Grant battling through to finish in second place.
The provisional date for next year’s rally at Brean Leisure Park is January 26 and 27.
